Onsite diagnostics

We are pleased to offer a full line of onsite diagnostic services for most all species at the Hilltop Veterinary Clinic

Blood analysis

Samples can be collected and analyzed, usually within 30 minutes, for all species.  This allows for pre anesthetic blood evaluations prior to a procedure, as well as swift diagnosis of medical problems the same day as an examination. Bloodwork is available for dogs, cats, horses, cattle, small ruminants, and some pocket pets.

Urinalysis

We are able to quickly and efficiently diagnose urinary issues using our in house urine analyzer. Our Veterinary Technologists are also trained to interpret urine samples and assess for conditions such as urinary tract infections, urinary crystals and bladder stones, cystitis (inflammation of the bladder), and bladder tumours. This allows us to initiate treatment at the time of your pet's examination in most situations.

Digital Radiography

Digital radiographs provide superior image quality, which enhances diagnostic potential.  Our team is able to take in clinic radiographs that allow us to make quick and accurate diagnoses of conditions such as fractures, intestinal blockages or GDV (bloat, twisted stomach), congestive heart failure, cruciate injuries, and arthritis. We also offer pregnancy diagnosis / puppy count estimates and OFA radiographs for breeding candidates.

We are pleased to announce that we now offer digital x-ray for our large animal patients through our Mayerthorpe clinic. This allows us to better diagnose fractures, arthritis, laminitis (founder), and other orthopedic conditions in the limbs of cattle, horses, and small ruminants. Please visit our mayerthorpevet.com webpage to learn more or schedule an appointment.

Ultrasonography

Ultrasound can enable us to obtain urine and fluids samples more safely, evaluate internal organs, and assess pregnancies not yet detectable on x-rays. Our ultrasound aids us in diagnosing critical conditions such as internal masses, intestinal blockages, and traumatic injuries. In more complicated cases where advanced ultrasonography is required, we offer referral to VCA-Guardian Veterinary Centre, Pulse Veterinary Centre, and FVS Imaging in Edmonton.

Ultrasound

We also offer ultrasound-based pregnancy diagnosis for cattle and horses through our Mayerthorpe clinic.
